Ava DuVernay and Autumn Riley

Ava DuVernay's birth was on the 24th day of August on the 24th of August, 1972 in Long Beach California. DuVernay received support from her Aunt Denise when she was a little girl. Aunt Denise was a nurse, who did night shifts to ensure that she could dedicate her time to literature, theatre, and art. DuVernay became enamored with the 1961 film West Side Story after her aunt recommended it to DuVernay. DuVernay realized that art could be an effective way to spread social activism. DuVernay was taught to be socially conscious by her mother. DuVernay was a summer resident of Lowndes County Alabama, where DuVernay's father was born and brought up. DuVernay's Dad recalled seeing the civil rights march of the past along the Edmund Pettus Bridge near the town of Selma Alabama. DuVernay used her summers in Alabama to inspire her future film, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. In 1990 DuVernay graduated from Saint Joseph High School in Lakewood California. DuVernay attended University of California Los Angeles following her graduation, and earned qualifications in English as well as African American Studies. DuVernay began to produce for broadcast journalism while she was still in college. She was an CBS News intern during the O.J. Simpson's trial. DuVernay recalled being instructed to look at the trash of a jury member's home. The duties she was required to accomplish left her unsatisfied and, following her decision not to pursue a career in journalism, she shifted into the industry of publicity. DuVernay got her first job as a publicist at a small production studio right after she graduated from school. In 1999, she established her own firm of public relations dubbed The DuVernay Agency.
